My favourite route at the mo takes me down Wellington Road towards Evans Bay, then along by the sea as far as I want, past all the wind sculptures. I really love this stretch. It's especially nice how it leads from the airport so if you're touching down in Wgtn it might be one of the first impressions you get. Good shit. When I came back from overseas last year I remember vividly enjoying the aesthetic of the touchdown in Wgtn the most... such a PRETTY town!
Running by the sea is intense on a windy or rainy day, visually and sens...ually? sensorially..?
I love how while ordinarily the weather in Wgtn can make me mad like NOTHING else, in particular the dam wind or the wetness (see previous rant about shoes). But when I'm running the worse the conditions the better! Its like I'm with the city not against it. Probably a lot of it is the fact that im all dressed up for combat in already sweaty (no, I don't wash them) clothes and my hair is tied back already looking ugly so I'm like "do your worst!!". Once I went out too late so it was really dark, and one of the heaviest rainy days so far this winter: AMAZING. Admittedly it was about the most dangerous thing I've ever done - visibility would've allowed anything happening to me with no one noticing. But so worth it.
Another favourite was the windiest day i can remember and I was listening to Shapeshifter as I ran right on the waters edge. My god the symphony of experiences for my senses!!
I also love being on foot, as fast as I can go, while the cars are lined up beside me stationary.
Today as I walked to school (8am) I noticed all these metalheads lined up outside Real Groovy on Abel Smith St. Quite the sight. Then I realised Metallica tickets were on sale today! I was charmed.
I listened to Metallica on my run today, it was amazing.
