I don't feel like I said goodbye to newtown properly. But then, I still have some bags, a passionfruit vine and a crapload of rubbish and dust I'm guessing I'm sposed to take care of at Colville Street so maybe this isn't actually the proper end yet.
I love Newtown.
Aaaand it turns out its a world renowned example of new Urbanism. I knew there was something special about it! It boasts-
An attractive main street of nice proportion with many attempts at planting - there are many well established trees.
A designed grid of houses stretching backwards from this main street, with houses that generally face onto othe street - close to the street for neighbourly socialising, with garages or driveways set to the side and back from the street.
A well used, consistent public transport vein running through it that provides an easy route to other nearby suburbs
The main street has residential use sitting above commercial use.
... Its all about community.
I will miss it!!
...especially the cafes; so far Aro has not shown me anything to rival Baobab. The clientele at Deliaro were definitely members of the book club 'n' chardy crew... did have a good scone though... and across the road arocafe wasn't looking much better (it was veeery full though).
Speaking of newtown, I am back in the curry trade!! I know you missed me. This time as architectural designer though... and on the payroll for it!
