... aaand while we're on the subject, NEXT to Ancestral, there's a new cool little Chinese takeaway noodle place that serves the cooked on-the-spot-inna-wok goods in these little boxes.
One of my favourite things is a classicly scummy setting (such as a tiny hole in the wall Courenay Place takeaway joint) with money thrown at it to create an ironically flash new little joint. Its just adorable.
Kind of an example related to this phenomenon is when painfully hip coffee places don't have kitchens so as a nod to counter food serve meat pies from a warmer like in a dairy... such as Lamason, tucked away on Lombard St:
Cute! I love that red (see Nixon watches a few posts ago). Pic stolen from The Wellingtonista - read about Lamason there, its a better description than I can be bothered writing for a v cool lil place:

Best thing about it (1 of them!) is the interior! A lot of money was thrown at this place... the lovingly deep brown wooden strip folding around and within the whole space - forming the doorway and counter- is Soo dam satisfying! Its one of those places that makes you think, what else do these guys own cos this is not a first time business owner that spent this much.
Turns out "these guys" is some guy high up at Peoples. Aand it is architecturally designed, incidentally by the designers, Designgroup Stapleton Elliot, who also brought us Monsoon Poon, Osterio del Toro aaand...... the Upper Hutt Cossie Club! (thats for u, JL). Wow, Architecture really IS enriching lives everyday.
